Multiple dead and four injured following two-vehicle crash
The collision occurred on on the M9 Northbound at about 03:00 local time on Sunday in County Kildare.
Several fatalities and four injuries have resulted from a two-car collision in County Kildare.
The crash took place on Sunday around 3:00 AM local time on the M9 Northbound at Junction 3.
According to Gardaí (Irish police), a vehicle was traveling on the wrong side of the road when it collided head-on with another car.
The driver and front passenger of the second car, both women in their 30s, were transported from the scene to Tallaght University Hospital, where they are both in critical condition.
A female rear seat passenger, in her 20s, was taken to St. Luke's General Hospital and is in serious condition.
The third passenger, a child, was transported to Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin and is also in serious condition.
The stretch of the M9 between Junction 3 and Junction 4, both northbound and southbound, is still closed, with local diversions in effect.
Gardaí are urging anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
They are also asking road users who were on the M9 northbound or southbound between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM on Sunday and who may have dashcam footage of the incident or the surrounding area to provide this footage to the investigating Gardaí.
Gardaí confirmed that Fiosrú (the Office of the Police Ombudsman) has been informed of the incident.
