Mosaic panels from the old terminal of Andijan Airport will be moved to a museum in a new building.

Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz News Agency.

The historic mosaics that adorned the old terminal of Andijan International Airport will be preserved after the building's demolition and integrated into the new terminal. They are planned to become part of the exhibition at a small museum to be created in the new terminal.

This information was confirmed by the airport's director, Sokhibjon Kenjaev, in an interview with journalists.

It was previously reported that the old terminal, built in 1979, was slated for demolition after the completion of the new terminal. The decision was made due to the building's failure to meet modern safety requirements following the expansion of the runway.

Nevertheless, the decision was made to preserve the terminal's historic elements. Specialists intend to carefully dismantle the mosaic panels in their entirety to avoid damaging the compositions during their removal.

These panels are expected to become the centerpieces of a small museum dedicated to the airport's history. The exact location of the museum has not yet been determined, as construction of the new terminal is ongoing, and its interior layout is still being finalized. A final decision will be made once all design work is completed.

Currently, specialists, in collaboration with the Agency for Cultural Heritage, are preparing to dismantle the mosaics.

Initially, options were considered, including preserving part of the old building or completely converting it into a museum. However, these ideas were abandoned. According to Kenjaev, the old airport terminal would not have been in keeping with the architectural design of the new, modern complex.

An administrative building for airport employees and barracks for military personnel providing security are planned to be erected on the site of the demolished building.

It is important to note that the mosaic panels currently lack official protection status and are not included in the state register of cultural heritage sites. The airport director stated that their inclusion in the register may be considered after they are moved to the new terminal.
