Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, once again called on him to stop the war with Ukraine.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, once again called on him to end the war with Ukraine.
"Every day of war is pushing humanity back. We must move towards an end to hostilities," Modi was quoted as saying by Interfax.
The leaders of India and Russia met face to face for the first time since Vladimir Putin's state visit to India in December 2025. They will continue their dialogue at the BRICS summit in Delhi this month.
Narendra Modi has previously publicly called on Vladimir Putin to stop the war in Ukraine.
"Today is not a time of war. We have spoken to you many times on the phone: democracy, diplomacy and dialogue are the tools to influence the world," Modi said at the SCO summit in Samarkand in 2022.
"It is impossible to find a solution to the problem and to negotiate peace successfully in an environment of bombs, guns and bullets," he said during a visit to Moscow in 2024.
The Indian leader also called on the parties to find a solution to the issue through dialogue and diplomacy during a visit to Kiev that year.
