The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Serbia discussed trade, investment, industrial cooperation, labor migration, and humanitarian ties.
Mirziyoyev and Vucic discussed a new stage of relations
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic held talks in Belgrade in a one-on-one format and with the participation of official delegations.
The parties reviewed the further development of political, trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mirziyoyev thanked the Serbian leader for the warm welcome and hospitality. He emphasized that the first visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Belgrade would mark the beginning of a new stage in relations between the two states.
The participants of the talks noted the intensification of political dialogue, inter-parliamentary ties, trade and economic cooperation, as well as business and humanitarian exchanges. The opening of diplomatic missions and the creation of an inter-parliamentary forum were named as important steps for further deepening relations.
The presidents paid special attention to trade and investment. Since the beginning of the year, several economic events have taken place with the participation of high-level delegations. On the eve of the talks, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was held, and an Uzbek-Serbian business forum involving leading companies from both countries is scheduled for September 8.
During the talks, the parties discussed the growth of mutual trade volumes, including through expanding supplies of high-demand goods. To achieve this, it is proposed to develop and adopt a free trade agreement, strengthen cooperation in the field of standardization, and organize reciprocal exhibitions.
Uzbekistan also intends to take an active part in the international exhibition "EXPO 2027" in Belgrade. Next year, the country will present a national pavilion at the event.
The presidents reviewed the prospects for new joint projects in the transport and logistics sectors, light and food industries, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, medicine, and the digital economy. Significant potential was noted in industrial cooperation for the production of automotive components, equipment, electrical, and electronic products.
To implement the agreements, a joint Action Plan for the development of industrial partnership for 2026–2028 was adopted.
The leaders also emphasized the importance of expanding interregional ties. They welcomed the establishment of direct contacts between the Samarkand region and Vojvodina, as well as between Samarkand and Novi Sad.
In the humanitarian sphere, the parties agreed to develop cooperation in education, culture, sports, and tourism. In particular, it is planned to hold Days of Culture, joint film, theater, and music festivals, as well as to expand direct contacts between sports federations.
Organized labor migration was a separate topic of the talks. Serbia expressed high interest in systematic cooperation in this area. Following the visit, the parties welcomed the adoption of an agreement on mobility and labor migration.
Mirziyoyev and Vucic also exchanged views on the regional and international agenda and confirmed mutual support on multilateral platforms.
A comprehensive "road map" will be developed for the timely implementation of the reached agreements, as well as the execution of adopted decisions and agreements.
