Julián Alvarez has another chance to leave Atletico — Mundo Deportivo

Julián Álvarez has another chance to leave Atletico Madrid, according to Mundo Deportivo. The Atletico Madrid striker has the option to unilaterally terminate his current contract and move to another team.

According to Spanish journalist Ramón Fuentes in Mundo Deportivo, this option is provided for in Royal Decree No. 1006, which regulates the labor relations of professional athletes.

If Álvarez decides to unilaterally terminate the contract, the issue of compensation to be paid to Atletico will be considered in court and the final amount will be determined by the court.

In this case, the compensation of 490 million euros specified in the Argentine player's contract may not be mandatory. The amount of compensation will be determined depending on the reasons for the termination of the contract and its term. Álvarez's contract with Atletico Madrid is designed until 2030.

However, if the player reaches an agreement with Barcelona within a year of terminating the contract, the Catalans may also be forced to pay part of the compensation determined by the court.

At the same time, the legal proceedings do not prevent Alvarez from moving to another club. According to Ramon Fuentes, Barcelona can sign the player and register him in La Liga. For this, it is not necessary to wait for the final decision of the court.

For information, Julian Alvarez moved from Manchester City to Atletico in the summer of 2024. The Madrid club paid 75 million euros for his transfer. The Argentine striker has since played 107 games for the "Madriders", scoring 49 goals and providing 17 assists. The Transfermarkt portal estimates the player's market value at 120 million euros.
