“It is in the plans.” Deputy Head of Tashkent Metro — on allocating separate carriages for women
In the Tashkent metro, it is currently not possible to allocate separate carriages for women. "However, we plan to take this issue into account when building new lines and purchasing carriages," said Yuldosh Yusupov, Deputy Head of the Metro. He emphasized that such a system would reduce violence and harassment.

“It is in the plans.” Deputy Head of Tashkent Metro — on allocating separate carriages for women
The issue of allocating separate carriages for women in the Tashkent Metro is planned to be taken into account during the construction of new metro lines and the procurement of carriages. Yuldosh Yusupov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of "Tashkent Metro" JSC, announced this on November 3 in response to a question from a Gazeta correspondent following a press conference at the Content Preparation Center.
According to him, proposals to allocate separate carriages for women are coming in both through social networks and direct appeals. However, the current passenger flow and the technical capabilities of the metro are not sufficient to introduce such a procedure.
“Today we do not have the capability. In the future, we plan to organize the work taking this issue into account when constructing new metro lines and ordering new carriages,” he said.
According to Yusupov, the share of women among the metro's average daily passengers is 40 percent.
He noted that allocating separate carriages would help reduce instances of violence and harassment against women. He also cited the experience of developed countries in this regard.
“After allocating separate carriages for women, cases of violence and harassment will certainly decrease. When we implement these plans in the future, we will be able to see the results,” Yusupov says.
Many believe this could ensure safety and comfort. Some, however, suggested other measures to eliminate overcrowding.
