Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan announces global Quran calligraphy competition

The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan has launched a worldwide Quran calligraphy competition.

This announcement was made during the third plenary session of the International Media Forum, titled “Islamic Civilization: A New Perspective – New Discoveries.” The session, hosted at the center, explored the theme “Heritage uniting the centuries: the spiritual meanings of Islamic civilization.”

The session highlighted various international endeavors focused on Quranic heritage, ancient manuscripts, Islamic calligraphy, documentary production, and the application of artificial intelligence in historical research. Projects showcased included “114 Qurans: 114 Masterpieces of Islamic World Calligraphy,” “The Katta Langar Quran: Facts and Legends,” “The 99 Names of Allah: Knowing the Almighty Through His Beautiful Names,” and “Artificial Intelligence – A Digital Key to Reading Ancient Manuscripts.” Attendees also viewed “The Mosque,” a documentary from the “Pages of a Shared Historical Heritage” initiative.

Discussions also addressed the media's role in confronting stereotypes and combating Islamophobia. The international dialogue included representatives from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and prominent media organizations from Algeria, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Mali, and Uzbekistan.

The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan serves as the primary location for this media forum, which has gathered approximately 300 media professionals and experts from nearly 50 nations. Among the participants are leaders of media corporations, news agencies, and television networks, alongside journalists, producers, academics, and creative industry specialists.

This competition is part of a larger effort to safeguard and advance Islamic calligraphic customs through global collaboration and the creation of a manuscript Quran that embodies the rich and varied heritage of the Islamic world.
