Infantino confirmed he will run for the FIFA presidency
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that he will run again in the next elections for the leadership of the organization.
"Of course, I will run in next year's elections. My program or motto is very simple, but at the same time very clear: 'Football belongs to everyone in the whole world.' That is what we are striving for. That is what I am striving for," he said.
The conflict surrounding Infantino intensified against the backdrop of the FIFA president's plans to reform the system of managing world football revenues. At the end of July, it became known that the Swiss official intends to transfer all media, sponsorship, and other rights for World Cups and other major tournaments to a separate entity, in which a portion of the shares is planned to be sold to external investors.
This initiative immediately provoked a sharp negative reaction: UEFA threatened to boycott the tournaments, and CONCACAF, AFC, and CONMEBOL also expressed criticism.
A number of countries refused to support Infantino in the FIFA presidential elections.
