Ceferin says he will not run for FIFA presidency

The president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Aleksander Ceferin, has announced that he does not intend to run for the FIFA presidency in 2027 and will not be a competitor to the current head of the organization, Gianni Infantino. This is reported by The Guardian.

According to Ceferin, he is not interested in becoming FIFA president. Ceferin said that he is satisfied with his work at UEFA, so he will not run for FIFA presidency. He believes that not running for this position is more beneficial for his reputation and position.

For information, the FIFA presidential elections are scheduled for March 2027, and the electoral process will be held in Morocco. Ceferin has been leading UEFA since September 2016 and has been re-elected to this position twice. In addition to his role as UEFA president, he also serves as FIFA vice-president.

Infantino has been under intense pressure recently after his plan to raise $4.2 billion by selling 20 percent of FIFA's commercial rights to private investors collapsed. If the deal had gone through, each federation would have received $40 million. However, UEFA, CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and CONMEBOL have all refused to support him. UEFA has also announced that it will boycott FIFA tournaments until the idea is officially abandoned.
