Uzbekistan intends to expand agricultural insurance to include trees and saplings in orchards and vineyards, as well as imported livestock
Uzbekistan plans to expand the list of objects and risks covered by agricultural insurance. These initiatives were presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on September 25, his press service reported.
The insurance system is set to include saplings and trees in orchards and vineyards, imported livestock, as well as risks associated with accidental events. In addition, the introduction of new insurance products for livestock breeding, cultivation of melons, potatoes, and onions is planned.
By 2027, the goal is to cover 45,000 agricultural enterprises with insurance and bring the insurance coverage of agricultural products to 60%. It is also planned to train 500 independent experts and fully digitize insurance services.
"Under the new approach, along with compensating for the consequences of damage, priority attention will be paid to risk prevention," the report says.
To achieve this, it is proposed to allocate 3-5% of the insurance premium to a special fund. Its funds are expected to be used for vaccination, preventive and veterinary services in livestock breeding, biological protection in cotton and grain farming, as well as the installation of protective equipment against natural disasters in orchards and vineyards.
As noted in the report, many agricultural insurance processes are already digitized through the Agrosafe information system — from submitting an application and issuing a contract and policy to monitoring, expert assessment, and payment of compensation.
The President instructed to ensure the transparency of processes, fair assessment of insurance events, and prompt payment of compensation. The responsible officials were instructed to finalize the proposals and submit drafts of the relevant legal acts.
