In Uzbekistan, starting from 2029, train drivers without a new license will be prohibited from operating rolling stock

Starting from 2029, train drivers in Uzbekistan who do not possess the new type of license will be prohibited from operating rolling stock.

A new procedure has been established in the country for granting the right to operate traction rolling stock on railway transport and the metro. The administrative regulation for providing this public service was approved by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on September 17. The document will come into force on January 1, 2027.

The new procedure applies to candidates wishing to obtain the right to operate locomotives, multiple-unit rolling stock, including high-speed trains, special rolling stock, and metro trains.

The public service will be provided by the Transport Control Inspectorate under the Ministry of Transport.

To obtain a license, a candidate must be at least 18 years old and have a relevant professional or higher education in the transport sector. They are also required to submit a document confirming the completion of an internship in operating traction rolling stock and undergo a medical examination.

Candidates' theoretical knowledge will be assessed through a test. The test consists of 100 questions, with 50 minutes allocated for completion. A candidate who scores at least 80 points is considered to have successfully passed the test.

The regulation also defines the procedure for issuing, extending, reissuing, issuing a duplicate, suspending, terminating, and canceling the license.

Current railway and metro drivers must obtain the new type of license by January 1, 2029. Starting from this date, drivers who have not obtained the new license will be prohibited from operating traction rolling stock.

Testing of knowledge to obtain the license will be conducted at the Institute for Retraining and Professional Development of Personnel in the Transport Sector under the Ministry of Transport.
