In Surxondaryo, a traffic patrol officer who was previously accused of taking a bribe and acquitted has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for taking a bribe again
An officer on duty at a regular road patrol post stopped a farmer's cotton-laden trucks, refusing to let them pass under the pretext of management's instructions. He then demanded 100,000 soums for each truck. He was caught red-handed while receiving 4 million soums to allow 41 trucks to pass through the road patrol post without obstacles.

An inspector of the Traffic Safety Department (YHXB) of the Surxondaryo Region Department of Internal Affairs (IIB) has been sentenced to prison on charges of bribery.
According to the court verdict, F.I. had been working in the internal affairs system since 2006. In July 2014, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison on bribery charges. By the decision of the cassation instance of the Supreme Court's Judicial Chamber on Criminal Cases dated July 18, 2022, the 2014 court verdict was overturned, and he was acquitted. Following this, he was reinstated to his job in the internal affairs system and had been working as a senior inspector of the Surxondaryo Region IIB YHXB since May 2023.
F.I. served at a regular traffic patrol post in the Boysun district. He stopped trucks carrying cotton from a production cooperative in the Qumqo‘rg‘on district to an LLC in the city of Qarshi, refusing to let them pass through the post. He told the heads of the farms that there was allegedly "an order from the head of the Surxondaryo Region IIB YHXB that cotton fiber must not leave the territory of the region."
The officer stated that if he were paid 100,000 soums for each truck, he would let them pass through the traffic patrol post without obstacles; otherwise, he would turn them back. He received 1.4 million soums on February 20, 2026, and 1.5 million soums on February 28, for the cotton-laden trucks allowed through the traffic patrol post. He also demanded 4.1 million soums for 41 trucks.
On March 2, an operational event was conducted in cooperation with law enforcement agencies. During the operation, F.I. was caught red-handed while receiving 4 million soums out of the demanded 4.1 million soums.
F.I. expressed regret for his actions, stated that he has 5 children under his care, is the sole breadwinner in his family, and asked the court for leniency.
By the verdict of the Boysun District Criminal Court, F.I. was found guilty of committing the crime stipulated in Article 210, Part 2, Paragraph "v" (taking a bribe) of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment, with deprivation of the right to work in internal affairs bodies for a period of 2 years.
The court of appeal left the verdict of the first-instance court unchanged.
