In Samarkand, a man who stabbed his wife to death was sentenced to 17 years in prison
In the city of Samarkand, a sentence was handed down to a 49-year-old man who argued with his wife during breakfast and stabbed her to death.
According to court documents, the couple, who married in 1998, had one child. Shortly after their marriage, the woman started working. The man began to constantly suspect her of infidelity. The wife's commuting to work, going to the market or visiting her parents, as well as her reluctance to have more children, had been the causes of family disputes.
"Shortly after our wedding, my wife went to work without my permission. After that, her character changed, and I began to suspect her of infidelity. But I never caught her with any specific person," the defendant said.
According to the man, this jealousy and conflicts continued for years. Even when the couple went to live in the US in November 2023, the arguments did not stop.
On January 7, 2026, they returned to Samarkand and began living in the same house, but in separate rooms. Having suspected his wife of infidelity for many years, the man said he did not want to live together and proposed a divorce. However, the woman did not agree to this.
The tragedy occurred on February 14. Waking up around 10:00 AM and preparing breakfast, the man consumed alcohol, woke his wife up, and they sat down at the table.
According to the defendant's testimony, during breakfast, his wife asked him why he was staring angrily. After that, the man lost his temper, took a knife from the table, and stabbed the woman in her right flank. When he tried to deliver a second blow, the tip of the knife bent. He then went to the hallway and brought another knife that was on top of the heating stove.
As the woman was running out of the kitchen and tripped on the threshold, the man stabbed her in the back several times. He then threw the knife away, went to his brother's house in the neighboring yard, and told his relatives that he had killed his wife. A prevention inspector and relatives arrived at the scene.
The brother of the deceased stated in court that he was not fully aware of the deterioration of the relationship between his sister and brother-in-law, that his sister had never complained, and that he had only heard from his nephew about their arguments in the US.
The forensic medical examination determined that the woman's death was caused by acute blood loss. The psychiatric evaluation showed that the man was fully aware of his actions at the time of the crime.
By the verdict of the Narpay District Criminal Court, the man was found guilty under Article 97, Part 2, Clause "j" of the Criminal Code (intentional homicide). He was sentenced to 17 years of deprivation of liberty.
