In Kazakhstan, 19 military personnel were swept away by sea currents

In Kazakhstan, on September 24, 19 military personnel were swept away in the Caspian Sea during training exercises. So far, three of them have been rescued. Tengrinews reported on this.

According to the information, the military personnel were performing a combat training mission on the coast of the Caspian Sea in the Mangystau region.

"We deeply regret to inform you that due to a sharp deterioration in meteorological conditions and strengthening winds, the military personnel were swept away into the sea," the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

So far, 9 military personnel are known to have died. Three people have been rescued, one of whom has been hospitalized. The search for the remaining individuals is ongoing. Forces and assets of the rescue services were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The Navy, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, aviation, and other relevant services have been involved in the search and rescue operation. A commission of the Ministry of Defense has departed for the scene to establish all the circumstances of the incident and coordinate the search and rescue operations. The commission is headed by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General of Aviation Dauren Kosanov.

The Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased servicemen. All necessary assistance will be provided to the families of the victims. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the death of the military personnel, and an operational-investigative group has been formed.
