In Fergana, 12 members of two families died from carbon monoxide poisoning in one week
In the city of Kokand, 5 members of one family died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
It was reported that the incident occurred on November 1 in one of the households in the Charkhiy neighborhood of the city of Kokand. It was established that 5 members of one family died from poisoning by a substance of unknown etiology.
3 of the deceased were underage girls (aged 7, 3, and 1).
During the investigation, it was revealed that a German-made Vaillant dual-circuit heating boiler was installed in this household, and its chimney had detached from where it was fitted.
The Emergency Situations Department of Fergana region addressed the population, calling on anyone who has installed a Vaillant boiler in their home to immediately stop using it.
According to the department, German-made Vaillant dual-circuit heating boilers have reached the end of their service life.
"The Germans previously used them and handed them over for recycling; they are considered obsolete devices unfit for use. However, they were illegally brought into Uzbekistan as spare parts by certain opportunistic 'entrepreneurs'. These unusable devices were re-equipped in a makeshift manner, brought into a seemingly new condition for purchase, and sold to citizens through deception," the report said.
It was added that the Vaillant boilers were imported without their genuine chimneys, which are an integral part of the system. Instead, polyethylene pipes were installed that are completely unsuitable for the operation process and lose their rigidity under high temperatures.
The report mentioned that on October 25, 7 members of a family died in the village of Chimyon in Fergana district, and on November 1, 5 people died in the city of Kokand from carbon monoxide poisoning.
The Emergency Situations Department asked the population never to install Vaillant boilers in their households, and to install other types of heating devices only with the involvement of a specialist, after thoroughly checking for a certificate of quality, operating instructions, and suitability for use.
