The Chinese technology corporation Huawei has unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Mate XT2. This is the company's first tri-fold phone.

When fully unfolded, the Mate XT2 approaches the size of a tablet — its diagonal is 10.2 inches (more than 25 cm). The company also noted that its advanced Kirin 9050 Pro chip is used in the new smartphone.
The price of the Mate XT2 starts at 20 thousand yuan (almost 3 thousand dollars), while the most expensive version is valued at 25 thousand yuan (3.73 thousand dollars). Sales of the smartphone will begin on September 12.
Until now, only South Korea's Samsung had manufactured a tri-fold smartphone. It presented the device in December 2025, but stopped sales shortly after. Currently, Samsung leads the foldable smartphone market. According to estimates by the research company Counterpoint, in 2025 its market share was 40 percent, while second-placed Huawei's share was 30 percent.
Recently, the demand for premium-class foldable phones has been growing. According to Omdia's forecast, by 2028, their sales will double compared to 2025, reaching 36 million units.
On September 7, another Chinese company — Xiaomi — is also expected to present its new flagship foldable smartphone. Additionally, it is anticipated that Apple will showcase its foldable smartphone at a presentation to be held on September 9.
