Greenhouses in Tashkent Region May Be Allowed to Operate on Coal If Filters Are Installed
In the Tashkent region, greenhouses may be allowed to continue operations if they switch to eco-friendly heating systems. The use of coal will be permitted only if modern boilers and emission control filters are installed.
Tashkent residents are increasingly complaining about polluted air, especially in the Yunusabad district, where greenhouses are heated with coal. In calm weather, emissions linger in the atmosphere, worsening the problem. Environmental authorities are conducting inspections and taking air samples.
Greenhouse owners have proposed modernizing their heating systems: switching to gas, electricity, solar, and geothermal energy, as well as utilizing heat from power plants. If such options are unavailable, they ask for permission to use coal, provided that certified boilers, filters, and video surveillance with data transmission to the National Environmental Monitoring Center are installed.
A working group has already tested a Chinese-made filter system; however, measurements showed non-compliance with standards. The manufacturers will need to refine the equipment.
Subsidies and tax incentives will be provided for greenhouses ready to transition to "green" technologies. Farms without safe heating systems will be banned from operating in the region. Emission control will be carried out by the National Committee on Ecology, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the National Guard.
