Gas extraction in Uzbekistan decreased by 15%, gasoline and car production increased significantly

Uzbekistan's gas production fell by 15 percent in January-July 2026, but there was a significant increase in gasoline and automobile production. This was reported in a seven-month report published by the Statistics Committee.

**Gas production continues to decline**

Uzbekistan's natural gas production has been declining for several years. In the first seven months of this year, 21.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, which is the lowest figure in the last nine years. For comparison, in the same period of 2025, 25.4 billion cubic meters of gas were produced, which is 15 percent more than this year. The highest figures were 32.2 billion cubic meters in 2017, and more than 35 billion cubic meters in 2018-2019.

**Decline in oil and coal, increase in electricity and gasoline**

In January-July 2026, 368.7 thousand tons of oil were extracted, which is 10.1 thousand tons less than in the same period of 2025. The volume of coal extraction also amounted to 3.5 million tons, which is 500 thousand tons less than in the previous year.

On the contrary, there was an increase in electricity production. During the reporting period, 52.5 billion kWh of electricity were produced, which is 6.4% more than in the same period of 2025. The commentary of the Statistics Committee notes that this figure does not include electricity generated by small businesses and households.

Gasoline production also increased significantly. In seven months, 731.9 thousand tons of gasoline were produced, which is 59.8 thousand tons (about 9%) more than in the same period of 2025.

**Increase in automobile production, BYD in the lead**

A total of 263,731 passenger cars were produced in Uzbekistan for seven months, which is 22,622 units more than in January-July 2025. Although UzAutoMotors retained the leadership in terms of production volume, there was a decrease in the production of some models.

The most produced car was Cobalt, with 91,140 units (an increase of 7,953 units). Damas came in second place with 47,521 units (down 4,066 units), and Tracker came in third with 25,779 units (down 3,606 units). Also produced were 20,445 Onix (up 1,711 units), 17,125 Kia (up 2,706 units), 4,801 Chery (down 37 units), and 5,778 Haval (up 1,358 units).

BYD recorded the highest growth in passenger car production. The Chinese company produced 17,765 vehicles in seven months, which is almost double the growth compared to the same period in 2025.

**Industrial enterprises and their activities**

As of August 1, 2026, 63.9 thousand industrial enterprises were operating in Uzbekistan. They produced products worth 795.4 trillion soums in January-July, which is an increase of 7.9% compared to the previous year.

One fifth of the enterprises (20.1%) specialize in the production of food products. 14% are engaged in the production of non-metallic mineral products, 10.2% in clothing, 8.2% in the production of finished metal products, and 6.8% in the production of furniture. The rest are enterprises engaged in the production of textiles, rubber and plastic products, and other types of activities.
