Five officials of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan have become suspects following the death of servicemen during exercises.
The tragedy occurred on September 24, 43 kilometers from Aktau. During a disembarkation from the "Kaisar" boat, the servicemen were swept out to sea. The exercises were conducted under adverse weather conditions.
Among those detained are representatives of the Navy command, commanders of two military units, a marine infantry company commander, and the boat commander.
The investigation is determining the causes of the incident. In particular, the organization of the disembarkation and compliance with safety requirements are being verified. In addition, specialists will study the weather conditions and the technical condition of the boat.
The detainees have been placed in a temporary detention facility in Aktau. The investigation is considering a possible violation of navigation rules and improper performance of official duties.
