Families of deceased military personnel in Mangystau to be allocated over 5 million dollars in aid

Financial support amounting to more than 2.3 billion tenge (about 5.2 million dollars) will be provided to the families of servicemen who died during exercises on the Caspian Sea in the Mangystau region. The funds will be provided by members of the "Adilet" party and the Kazakhstan People's Council.

The "Adilet" party, together with its Business Council, will direct 1.5 billion tenge (3.3 million dollars) to support the families of the deceased and injured servicemen. The money will go to the "Ulttyq Ruh" fund, which has been designated as the single operator for collecting aid. Contributions are made voluntarily.

Another 815 million tenge (1.8 million dollars) to help the families of the deceased has already been collected by members of the Kazakhstan People's Council. These funds will be transferred directly to the relatives of the servicemen.

As a reminder, the tragedy occurred on September 24 during exercises of the Kazakhstan Naval Forces off the coast of the Caspian Sea. While performing a combat training mission, weather conditions deteriorated sharply and the wind intensified, leaving 17 servicemen in the open sea. Three were rescued, 14 died. The search and rescue operation concluded on September 25 after the bodies of the last two missing servicemen were found.

Following the death of the servicemen, a criminal case was initiated under articles on negligent attitude to service resulting in grave consequences, and violation of navigation rules. A government commission is investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident.

In connection with the tragedy, September 25 was declared a day of national mourning in Kazakhstan.

The Akimat of the Mangystau region had previously urged those wishing to help to transfer funds only through the official "Ulttyq Ruh" fund. The movement of funds is under the control of state and law enforcement agencies.
