Election week: the losers are fleeing – weekly digest
The most important political event of the week was the elections in Israel. Because the actions taken by this state in recent years have completely disrupted the balance in the Middle East. The main intrigue of the election was whether Netanyahu would leave or not. According to the results of the parliamentary election, the winner is not clear for now. Neither Netanyahu's bloc nor the opposition managed to secure the required 61 votes. However, Israeli Arabs surprised everyone and are expected to win 18-19 seats. This is an absolute record for Arab parties.
The official election results will be announced by November 4. After that, if either side forms a coalition by November 11, it will take power. The process may unfold in different ways. For example, the opposition led by General Gadi Eisenkot could unite with the Arab parties to gather the necessary 61 votes, form a government, and Netanyahu could leave. It is also not ruled out that the current prime minister might reach an agreement with Eisenkot himself and form a mixed government. If no one can form a government, re-elections will be held.
Elections were also intense in Brazil. Incumbent President Lula da Silva won again by a narrow margin. In the second round of the election, more than 51 percent of voters voted for the 80-year-old Lula, while nearly 49 percent voted for Flávio Bolsonaro. A similar result was recorded 4 years ago, only then Lula defeated the elder Bolsonaro, who is now in prison. The 80-year-old Lula said that if he won the election, he would also imprison the younger Bolsonaro, but he did not get the chance. Apparently fearing that he would suffer his father's fate, Flávio fled to the United States.
This family is close to Trump, and the US had supported his candidacy. Lula's victory was received poorly in Washington; Trump's supporters came out saying that "relations with Brazil should be severed," but naturally, they could not provide any proof that the elections in Brazil were not democratic.
Reports about a potential new war in Iran grew increasingly frequent throughout the week. Midterm elections will be held in the US on November 3, and the results will come out the following day. On that same day, the elections in Israel will also be settled. If Trump and Netanyahu retain their power, it is highly likely that next major operations against Iran will begin. There are many events pointing to this.
Of course, the US will not invade Iran by land; this is a huge risk, and a stream of coffins flowing across the ocean poses a serious threat to the Trump administration. This time, strikes could again be launched against the new leadership, nuclear facilities, and the systems of the Revolutionary Guard Corps. However, the election results in America and Israel could also prevent a new war.
