Crime in the capital's Mirabad district sparked concern among senators

Crime prevention needs to be strengthened in Tashkent's Mirabad district: the rate of preventable crimes here has reached 182.3 per 100,000 residents, compared to the capital's average of 131.5. Senators demanded an investigation into the causes of offenses in every mahalla and additional measures to improve the crime situation.

These issues were considered at the 30th session of the Mirabad District Kengash of People's Deputies. Kutbiddin Burkhanov, Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Defense and Security Issues, Bakhrom Abdullayev, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, and Gulnora Marufova, member of the Committee on Science, Education and Health, participated in its work. This was reported by the information service of the upper house of parliament.

The session discussed measures to ensure safety on the streets and in homes, increase population employment, boost local budget revenues, and achieve comprehensive development of mahallas.

Special attention was paid to areas with an unfavorable crime situation. Issues were raised regarding assigning responsible managers to problem mahallas, targeted work with youth, support for families in need of social protection, and the early prevention of offenses.

Kutbiddin Burkhanov, Chairman of the relevant Senate committee, drew attention to crime statistics. While the Tashkent average for preventable crimes stands at 131.5 per 100,000 population, in the Mirabad district it is 182.3. Thus, the district's rate is approximately 39% higher than the citywide average.

According to the participants of the discussion, these data require a more targeted approach to crime prevention, as well as a detailed analysis of the causes of crime, taking into account the characteristics of each mahalla and the types of crimes committed.

Out of 39 mahallas in the Mirabad district, only eight are classified in the "green" category, 29 in the "yellow", and two more in the "red". Thus, 31 out of 39 mahallas belong to the "yellow" and "red" categories, indicating the need for additional preventive measures across a significant portion of the district's territory.

Following the discussion, tasks were set for the district khokimiyat, the prosecutor's office, and the internal affairs department to identify the causes of the increase in crime in each mahalla, analyze the structure of offenses, and eliminate the factors contributing to their commission.

The session also emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation among citizens' self-government bodies, the khokimiyat, the prosecutor's office, and internal affairs bodies. The importance of the personal responsibility of leaders and the evaluation of preventive work based on its real results was noted separately.

It remains to be determined precisely which factors are generating the elevated level of crime in the Mirabad district, and to ensure the practical implementation of the planned measures.
