Chess. Bibisora Assaubayeva advances to final round with second medal at prestigious tournament

Kazakh chess grandmaster Bibisora Assaubayeva qualified for the Grand Finals after finishing second in the blitz matches of the WR Women’s Chess Tour tournament in Saint-Tropez, France. This was her second medal at this prestigious tournament.

In the semifinals, Assaubayeva faced Elisabeth Pets from Germany. Although she was initially behind 0.5:1.5, she was able to equalize in the next game. The winner was determined in a tie-break, or rather, an armageddon game, in which Assaubayeva defeated her opponent and advanced to the finals.

Her opponent in the final was Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk. Assaubayeva won the first game, but Muzychuk equalized in the next game. The third game ended in a draw, and the fate of the championship was decided in the fourth game.

In the decisive game, Assaubayeva, who played with black pieces, was defeated. As a result, Muzychuk won 2.5:1.5 and received the main prize and $7,000 in prize money. Bibisora Assaubayeva won the silver medal with 7.5 points. Third place went to Elizabeth Pets.

Let us recall that on August 25, in the rapid tournament held in Saint-Tropez, Assaubayeva won the gold medal, defeating the Ukrainian Maria Muzychuk 2:0.

Thus, the Kazakh chess player completed the French stage of the WR Women’s Chess Tour with gold and silver medals.

This result gave Bibisora Assaubayeva the right to participate in the Grand Final of the European stage. The decisive tournament will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, on November 22-23.

For your information, the WR Women’s Chess Tour is a new international project aimed at developing and popularizing women’s chess, with a total prize fund of $200,000. Throughout the year, tournament stages will be held in Tokyo, Punta Cana, Maputo and Saint-Tropez. The world’s top 8 chess players will be invited to each stage, and the top two athletes will advance to the final stage in Stuttgart in November.
