Bibisora Assaubayeva wins prestigious rapid tournament

Kazakh chess player Bibisora Assaubayeva successfully participated in the WR Women’s Chess Tour international tournament held in Saint-Tropez, France, and won the European women’s rapid chess (rapid) event.

The quarterfinals and semifinals of the tournament were very intense for Assaubayeva. After the main games in both stages ended in a draw, the winner was determined in a tie-break. The Kazakh grandmaster defeated her opponents in armageddon games and qualified for the decisive match.

In the final match of the tournament, Assaubayeva won a convincing 2:0 victory over experienced Ukrainian chess player Maria Muzychuk. The Kazakh grandmaster earned 10 points for her victory in the play-off format.

On August 27, blitz matches will begin in Saint-Tropez. After the blitz matches, the two highest-ranked chess players will qualify for the Grand Finals in Stuttgart, Germany in November.
