Chelsea reach agreement with Emiliano Martinez — Romano
Argentina national team and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is on the verge of becoming a Chelsea player. The “aristocrats” have reached a verbal agreement to transfer Martinez. The transfer will be made on a permanent basis. This was reported by the well-known insider and journalist Fabrizio Romano on his page on social networks.
It is noted that the clubs have agreed on a fee of 7.5 million pounds for the player’s transfer. Martinez has agreed to join Chelsea.
Negotiations between the clubs are still ongoing. Tottenham, which previously expressed interest in the player, has turned its attention to other goalkeepers.
Emiliano Martinez will turn 34 in a week. He has been defending the honor of the Birmingham club since 2020. In total, he has made 256 appearances for Aston Villa, conceding 305 goals and keeping 80 clean sheets. The Argentine has previously played for Arsenal, Reading, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Getafe and Oxford United.
Martinez's current contract with Aston Villa runs until 30 June 2029. According to Transfermarkt, the player's transfer fee is €12 million. In the 2025/2026 season, the goalkeeper has made 44 appearances for the club, conceding 49 goals and keeping 14 clean sheets.
