Bucheon and KT&G launch the Green Initiative

More than a thousand students and volunteers joined forces for the environment in Tashkent. The "Green Future - Uzbekistan and Korea" festival brought together Korea's KT&G Corporation, Bucheon University in Tashkent, the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan, and public organizations. Park cleanup, waste sorting, and preparing materials for recycling became the practical continuation of the ecological agenda.

The festival was held in Gafur Gulam Park under the initiative of KT&G and coordinated by Bucheon University in Tashkent. Its key event was the signing of a tripartite memorandum between the corporation, the university, and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The document lays the foundation for future cooperation in the fields of environmental culture, education, and international initiatives.

Developing environmental management and social responsibility, KT&G is focusing on the rational use of resources, reducing environmental impact, and effective waste management. The company's goals through 2030 include reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42 percent compared to 2020 levels, reducing water intake by 20 percent, and achieving a waste recycling rate of 90 percent.

The festival was attended by the President of KT&G Eurasia, Cho Jae Young; the Managing Director of KT&G Global TAS, Lee Jongyub; and the Head of the KT&G ESG Management Office, Young ah-Shim.

Representatives of state bodies and public organizations of Uzbekistan also joined the environmental initiative. Among them were the khokim of Chilanzar district, Khayot Inogamov; Advisor to the Minister of Culture on International Affairs, Shokhrukh Akbarov; as well as representatives of the Oliy Majlis, the Senate, and the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan. The participation of representatives of local government and relevant structures highlighted the importance of cooperation between the state, educational institutions, business, and the public in developing environmental culture.

Speaking at the event, Young ah-Shim emphasized that environmental issues require joint efforts from various countries and communities.

"Today, environmental problems are no longer the problem of just one country. This is an important task that the whole world must address together, demonstrating solidarity and uniting efforts," she said.

Young ah-Shim noted that KT&G intends to continue its social and environmental initiatives and strengthen cooperation with Uzbekistan. Participation in the festival was a practical step in this direction: the principles of sustainable development were implemented in cooperation with the university, state structures, and the local community.
