BUCHEON AND KT&G LAUNCH GREEN INITIATIVE
More than a thousand students and volunteers joined forces in Tashkent for the sake of the environment. The "Green Future — Uzbekistan and Korea" festival brought together the Korean corporation KT&G, Bucheon University in Tashkent, the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan, and public organizations. Cleaning up the park, sorting waste, and preparing it for recycling became a practical continuation of the environmental agenda.

The festival took place in Gafur Gulyam Park on the initiative of KT&G and under the coordination of Bucheon University in Tashkent. The main event was the signing of a tripartite memorandum between the corporation, the university, and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The document establishes a foundation for further cooperation in the fields of environmental culture, education, and international initiatives.
KT&G consistently develops environmental management and social responsibility, focusing on the rational use of resources, reducing environmental impact, and effective waste management. Among the company's targets for 2030 are reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42 percent compared to 2020 levels, reducing water withdrawal by 20 percent, and bringing the waste recycling rate to 90 percent.
The festival was attended by the President of KT&G Eurasia Cho Jae Young, General Manager of KT&G Global TAS Lee Jongyub, and Head of the ESG Management Office at KT&G Young ah-Shim.
Representatives of state bodies and public organizations of Uzbekistan also joined the environmental initiative, including Khokim of the Chilanzar district Khayot Inogamov, Advisor to the Minister of Culture on International Affairs Shahrukh Akbarov, and representatives of the Oliy Majlis, the Senate, and the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan. The presence of local authorities and specialized structures emphasized the importance of cooperation between the state, educational institutions, business, and the public in promoting environmental culture.
Speaking at the event, Young ah-Shim noted that environmental challenges require combining the efforts of different countries and communities.
"Environmental issues today are no longer the problem of any single country. This is a crucial task that the entire world must address together, showing solidarity and joining forces," she said.
According to Young ah-Shim, KT&G intends to continue implementing social and environmental initiatives, as well as strengthening cooperation with Uzbekistan. Participation in the festival was a practical step in this direction: the principles of sustainable development were embodied in joint work with the university, state structures, and the local community.
