Bavarian Minister of Economy found dead

Hubert Aiwanger, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Bavaria, was found dead in Berlin on the evening of November 4.

Aiwanger was scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening of the Berlin office of the "Free Voters" party, of which he was a member. However, due to a deterioration in his health, he canceled his speech and subsequently went out of contact. Later, the 55-year-old politician was found lifeless in a room at the "Neuer Fritz" hotel in the Berlin-Mitte district.

The cause of the politician's death has not yet been determined. The Berlin police and prosecutor's office have initiated an investigation into Aiwanger's death. The possible involvement of third parties in the incident is also being examined. Citing its own information, the publication Tagesspiegel writes that the Berlin authorities attribute the politician's death to natural causes.

"The sudden death of Hubert Aiwanger is a real tragedy. We are all in deep sorrow," commented Markus Söder, Prime Minister of Bavaria.

Hubert Aiwanger was born on January 26, 1971, in Ergoldsbach, Bavaria. His political career is tied to the "Free Voters" party. Starting in 2006, he headed the Bavarian branch of the party, and in 2010 he was elected its federal chairman.

The politician was first elected to the Bavarian Landtag (state parliament) in 2008. Following the results of the 2018 parliamentary elections, he assumed the posts of Minister of Economy, Regional Development and Energy, as well as Deputy Prime Minister.
