Bank deposits in Uzbekistan increased by 34.9% over the year

The deposit balance in commercial banks of Uzbekistan reached 501 trillion soums as of October 1, 2026, which is 34.9% more than a year earlier. As of October 1, 2025, the volume of deposits stood at 371.5 trillion soums. This was reported by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

Deposits grew significantly faster than loans, with the loan portfolio gaining 13.2% over the same period. As a result, the loan-to-deposit ratio in the banking system decreased from 1.57 to 1.32. For state-owned banks, this indicator dropped from 2.03 to 1.69, and for other banks — from 1.06 to 0.93.

The main contribution to the growth came from national currency deposits. They increased by 41.8% to 407.9 trillion soums, while foreign currency deposits grew by 11.2% to 93.1 trillion soums. The share of foreign currency deposits fell from 22.5% to 18.6%.

Individual deposits account for 191.6 trillion soums, or 38.2% of the total volume, while corporate deposits account for 309.4 trillion soums.

The maturity structure has also changed. Short-term fixed-term deposits with a maturity of up to one year grew by 49.3% to 187.2 trillion soums, becoming the largest category with a share of 37.4%. Long-term deposits increased by 24.3% to 168.3 trillion soums, but their share declined from 36.5% to 33.6%. Demand deposits grew by 31.6% to 145.5 trillion soums, accounting for 29% of the balance.

Private banks attracted funds more actively than state-owned ones. Their deposits grew by 40.8% to 249.6 trillion soums, while deposits at state-owned banks grew by 29.5% to 251.5 trillion soums. Now both groups hold nearly equal volumes.

NBU remains the largest deposit holder with 58.8 trillion soums. Second place is held by Kapitalbank (51.5 trillion), which concentrates the system's largest volume of retail deposits — 30 trillion soums. These are followed by Agrobank (44.6 trillion), Uzpromstroybank (37.7 trillion), Xalq Banki (31.5 trillion), and Ipoteka-Bank (29.3 trillion soums).

The growth in deposits changed the structure of bank funding. The share of deposits in liabilities increased from 50.4% to 56.2%, while the share of raised loans and leasing dropped from 33.6% to 28.2%. The volume of these borrowings over the year grew by only 1.7%, to 251.4 trillion soums.
