Aybek Dadebay elected speaker of the Kazakh Kurultai
Former head of the presidential administration and leader of the 'Adilet' party, Aybek Dadebay, has been elected chairman of Kazakhstan's new unicameral parliament, the Kurultai. His candidacy was put forward by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and approved by deputies in a secret ballot.

Aybek Dadebay, leader of the "Adilet" party and former head of the presidential administration, was elected speaker of the Kurultai, the newly formed unicameral parliament of Kazakhstan.
According to reports, on August 28, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed the candidacy of Aybek Dadebay for the post of speaker of the Kurultai. In his speech, the president said: "I propose the candidate Dadebay Aybek Arkabayuli for this responsible position. You know him well. He has worked in the state administration system for a long time and has extensive experience. He has proven in practice that he is an educated, patriotic and responsible citizen."
After that, the deputies elected Aybek Dadebay as the chairman of the first convocation of the Kurultai by secret ballot.
Aybek Dadebay was born on April 1, 1980 in Almaty. He graduated from the Abilai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages in 2001, and in 2003 he received a master's degree in regional studies there.
He began his career in education, then moved to the civil service. He worked in the Senate, dealing with international cooperation issues, and served as assistant to the chairman of the chamber. From 2024 to 2026, he served as head of the presidential administration of Kazakhstan.
Elections to the new national parliament were held on August 23. After the approval of the new Constitution in a referendum in March 2026, Kazakhstan has a unicameral Kurultai. The president's Adilet party won these elections.
After voting in the election, Tokayev noted that there would be some changes in the composition of the Kazakh government, the purpose of which was not just dismissals or the creation of “media content”, but rather to give the government a “serious impetus” to its work.
On August 28, Tokayev issued a decree, the Kazakh government resigned. According to the country’s new Constitution, the government will hand over its powers to the newly elected parliament.
