Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulates the President of Kazakhstan on the successful elections to the Kurultai

Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the President of Kazakhstan on the successful holding of the elections to the Kurultai.

On August 24, Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

According to the presidential press service, at the beginning of the conversation, the head of Uzbekistan congratulated the President of Kazakhstan on the successful holding of the elections to the unicameral Kurultai for the first time in the country's history. They expressed confidence that the new Kurultai would be an important factor in further promoting consistent reforms in Kazakhstan, effectively ensure large-scale legislative changes, and give a new impetus to the country's sustainable development.

During the conversation, the heads of state noted with satisfaction the rapid development of Uzbek-Kazakhstan strategic partnership and alliance relations. Particular attention was paid to the issues of further increasing mutual trade, developing industrial cooperation, implementing joint investment projects, developing transport and logistics ties, and creating new opportunities for intensification of business relations between the regions of the two countries. The leaders also exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international importance.

Parliamentary elections were held in Kazakhstan on August 23. These were the first parliamentary elections in the country after the adoption of the new Constitution. According to the new Constitution, Kazakhstan switched from a bicameral parliament to a unicameral parliament. The unicameral parliament — the Kurultay — consists of 145 deputies elected for a 5-year term. According to the country's Central Election Commission, the presidential party — "Adilet" — won more than 70 percent of the vote in the new parliamentary elections.

On August 23, Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a letter to the President of Kazakhstan congratulating him on the successful holding of the elections to the Kurultai.
