Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulates Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the successful holding of parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan

Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the parliamentary elections held in the country. The press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported this on August 23.
In his letter, the Uzbek leader noted that the elections to the renewed parliament of Kazakhstan - the Kurultai - were held in accordance with international standards and democratic principles. Mirziyoyev noted that this historic event marked a new stage in improving the political system of Kazakhstan, increasing the efficiency of public administration and strengthening the role of parliament.
The letter states that the active participation of citizens in the elections is a clear evidence of the people's support for the reforms being implemented under the leadership of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"Also, confidence was expressed that close cooperation between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will reach a new qualitative level in the spirit of strategic partnership and allied relations between the two friendly countries," the message says.
In conclusion, Shavkat Mirziyoyev wished Kassym-Jomart Tokayev good health, prosperity and great success in his state activities, and peace and prosperity to the fraternal people of Kazakhstan.
We would like to remind you that on August 23, it was announced that elections to the unicameral parliament - the Kurultai - had begun in Kazakhstan. The bicameral parliament of Kazakhstan officially concluded its work on June 30.
This reform fundamentally changes the political system of the neighboring republic: instead of the bicameral parliament - the Senate and the Majlis, a unicameral Kurultai was established. The position of Vice-President was restored, a new advisory body - the People's Council - will appear, its members are expected to be appointed by the president.
A new Constitution came into force in the country on July 1. In March, its draft was approved by almost 90 percent of the vote. The new Constitution will allow incumbent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to run again in the presidential election, as individuals who held certain state positions under the 1995 Constitution may be re-elected or appointed to the relevant positions after the new Constitution enters into force.
