Authorities explain why onion prices rose in Uzbekistan

The increase in onion prices in Uzbekistan is linked to seasonality, transportation costs, and markup by intermediaries. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The agency explained that in a number of regions, the local harvest has already been gathered, so onions have to be brought in from other regions. Additional delivery expenses are reflected in the final price of the product.

According to the ministry, the country plans to harvest about 1.5 million tons of onions in 2026. This is 35% more than domestic demand. The agency also warned entrepreneurs that artificially inflating prices is unacceptable.

As a reminder, in April 2025, onion prices rose sharply in Uzbekistan. At that time, the reason cited was a reduction in the acreage planted with early varieties of the vegetable.
