Para Asian Games: Gold medal canceled due to opponent's complaint returned to Fakhriddin Khamraev after appeal
On October 21 at the Para Asian Games taking place in Japan, the gold medal of Uzbek athlete Fakhriddin Khamraev was initially canceled, but later reinstated following an appeal. The Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan explained to Gazeta how this situation unfolded.
According to the explanation, in the T13 class 1500-meter running event in para athletics, Uzbekistan's representative Fakhriddin Khamraev outran all his opponents, crossed the finish line first, and won the gold medal (video of Khamraev's performance).
However, after the race finished, a Jordanian athlete submitted a complaint to the panel of judges. He claimed that Khamraev had pushed him and hindered his run. This complaint was satisfied, the Uzbek athlete's result was canceled, and he was disqualified from the competition.
"Following this, the officials of the Uzbekistan delegation promptly filed an appeal. The International Para Athletics Control Commission re-examined the video recordings of the race. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that Khamraev committed no improper action against the opponent and no rule was violated," the explanation reads.
According to the objective conclusion of the commission's working group, Fakhriddin Khamraev's disqualification was lifted. His result was recognized as legitimate, and the Para Asian Games gold medal belonging to the athlete was officially returned.
Fakhriddin Khamraev's gold medal had not been included in the overall standings because it was not yet reflected on the official website of the competition and in the committee's data.
