Asian Games diary. Uzbekistan settled for one gold and let India slip ahead

Wrestler Ramzanbek Jamalov, who became an Olympic champion, lost in his very first match, while Olympic finalist Svetlana Saidova (Osipova) failed to reach the final at the Asian Games. Two Uzbeks who reached the finals – freestyle wrestler Sherzod Poyonov and taekwondo athlete Marat Mavlonov – lost their bouts for the gold. The football team also lost to China in a penalty shootout in the bronze medal match.

Asian Games Diary. Uzbekistan limited to a single gold and gives way to India

On October 3, the 13th day of the Asian Games, representatives of the Uzbekistan delegation participated in competitions across 11 sports.

At the end of the day, 1 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals were won.

Takhmina Ikromova, a member of the Uzbekistan national rhythmic gymnastics team, won her third gold medal at the Asian Games (she had also won gold in the individual and team events at the Hangzhou tournament). In Japan, she reached the final of the individual all-around program and outperformed everyone with a score of 112.950. Second and third places were taken by Chinese gymnasts. Kazakhstani gymnasts Akmaral Yerekesheva and Aybota Yertayqyzy finished in fourth and fifth places.

Additionally, the team consisting of Irodakhon Sodiqova, Yosina Joʻrayeva, Diana Hakimova, Milana Safina, and Sofiya Usova, which participated in the group exercise program, took fourth place with 49.850 points. The medal positions were taken by the teams of China (55.300), Japan (52.500), and Kazakhstan (51.500).

Meanwhile, the Uzbekistan freestyle wrestling team was unable to record the expected high results. In today's program, another 5 representatives of the team tested their capabilities.

In the -97 kg weight category, Sherzod Poyonov defeated Magomed Sharipov, who competed on behalf of Bahrain (3:3, advancing to the next stage by virtue of scoring the last point), Gankhuyag Ganbatar of Mongolia (2:1), and Deepak Punia of India (9:8) during the competition. However, in the final, he found no way past Amirali Azarpira of Iran (0:10) and settled for the silver medal.

For Ramzanbek Jamalov, who is originally from Russia and has been representing Uzbekistan in recent international tournaments, this tournament turned out to be very unsuccessful. This athlete, who won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, lost to his very first opponent at the Asian Games. He was initially defeated by Younes Emamichoghaei of Iran (6:7); after this athlete reached the final, Jamalov got a chance to fight for the bronze. However, in the repechage match, he also lost to Sagar Jaglan of India (3:7).
