International Academy of Fashion to be established in Tashkent
The International Academy of Fashion is being established in Tashkent as a state higher education institution within the system of the Agency for the Development of Light Industry. The relevant decree was signed on October 16 by the President of Uzbekistan.
The Academy will begin operating from the current academic year on the basis of a joint educational program of the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry, developed together with the Paris International Academy of Fashion (Académie internationale de coupe de Paris). Students of this program will continue their studies at the academy and receive its diploma.
Among the objectives of the decision are the development of light industry, design, fashion, and the creative economy, the formation and elevation of a national fashion school to the international level, the training of highly qualified specialists, ensuring close integration of education, science, and production, supporting national brands, as well as creating a competitive fashion industry based on national cultural heritage and traditions.
The new university will be located on the site of the Korean-Uzbek Training and Practical Textile Technopark, which is closing down.
In addition to its own bachelor's and master's degree programs, the task has been set to introduce joint programs with universities in France, Italy, Great Britain, and Turkey. There are also plans to attract international students to the academy.
Starting from the 2027/2028 academic year, a dual education model focused on targeted training of personnel for the textile, garment, knitwear, and leather-footwear sectors based on orders from enterprises and organizations will be implemented at the academy. Under this model, 30% of the educational process will take place at the university, while the rest of the time will be spent directly in production.
Graduates of technical colleges training personnel for the light industry sector who have a sufficient grade point average (GPA) will be able to enroll in the academy's third year on a fee-paying basis.
Starting next year, a postgraduate education institute is to be created within the academy.
The development of clothing designs for various organizations and services under state contract will also be organized on the basis of the academy.
