Turkey's Aksa Enerji company plans to sign agreements on electricity distribution networks of Tashkent, Syrdarya, and Jizzakh regions within a week. This was stated by Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, Cemil Kazancı, in an interview with the "Uzbekistan 24" TV channel following a meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on October 16.
He emphasized that the company intends to invest in distribution networks in order to reduce losses, lower prime costs, and increase energy efficiency.
"At the meeting, we also discussed our agreements regarding the Tashkent, Syrdarya, and Jizzakh regions. We plan to sign them within a week. Thus, we will expand our activities that started in Samarkand to these regions as well," Kazancı said.
He noted that during the meeting with the president, the tasks facing the company were clarified.
"Projects that serve the interests of the population were presented to us. Now we will study them quickly and submit our proposals. We want this visit of ours to end with concrete agreements," the head of Aksa's board of directors said.
According to Kazancı, to date, Aksa Enerji has invested $750 million in Uzbekistan and built four power plants.
"In the future, we will continue our activities in the field of electricity and gas distribution as well," he said.
The interview did not disclose the parameters of the planned agreements for the three regions or the form of the company's participation in the operation of the distribution networks.
Earlier, Aksa won an international tender for the management of Samarkand region's electricity distribution networks. As reported by the regional khokimiyat on October 9, under the 30-year agreement, the investor plans to direct $1 billion into the region's infrastructure (it must attract $357 million in direct investment during the first 12 years). The project envisages the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of low-voltage networks.
According to the khokimiyat, the Turkish side completed an audit of critical sections and developed 440 projects. It is planned to upgrade 1,000 transformers and replace obsolete support poles and power transmission lines in the region. The purchase of mobile generators and specialized equipment is also under consideration.
Aksa is also involved in electricity generation in Uzbekistan. The company has implemented projects to build power plants with a total capacity of 740 MW in Tashkent and Bukhara regions. In December 2024, a ceremony was held to launch another 400 MW capacity plant in Nishon district of Kashkadarya region.
