Uzbekistan and a Chinese company discuss EV charging network along the Tashkent–Khorezm route

China Southern Power Grid Industrial Development Group is considering building a network of electric vehicle charging stations in Uzbekistan, including along the Tashkent–Khorezm route, as the two sides explore possible investment projects in the sector.

The plans were raised during a September 18 meeting between Azizbek Isoev, an adviser to Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, and a delegation from the Chinese company.

The two sides talked about developing modern EV charging infrastructure in Uzbekistan, including setting up charging stations along the Tashkent–Khorezm route. They also looked at opportunities to localize the production of charging equipment in Uzbekistan, expand related service infrastructure and launch new investment projects in the sector.

After the meeting, both sides said they were ready to continue practical work on preparing and implementing specific projects.

Uzbekistan has also been expanding electric transport infrastructure in Khorezm. In August 2026, 10 Chinese-made trolleybuses were introduced on the Urgench–Khiva route. The vehicles are equipped with autonomous driving systems and can travel up to 100 km without connection to the electric network.

The expansion of EV infrastructure is also happening alongside wider investment in the country’s energy and transport systems, including new electricity generation and modernization projects involving Chinese companies.
