Admission to residency in medicine will be suspended from 2027
In Uzbekistan, residency programs aligned with international standards will be gradually introduced on the basis of clinical residency (ordinatura) to train specialized medical professionals. Starting from the 2027-2028 academic year, the training of specialized professionals will be carried out entirely through residency, and admission to clinical residency (ordinatura) will be discontinued.

Admission to medical residency (ordinatura) will be suspended starting from 2027
This is stipulated in a presidential decree aimed at improving the system of training personnel in the medical and pharmaceutical fields.
According to the document, the duration of residency programs will vary depending on the specialty and will be established based on international standards.
The training of narrow-specialty experts in residency will be carried out in state medical educational organizations and medical institutions on the basis of state grants.
Starting from the 2026-2027 academic year, a residency program in family medicine will be established. Graduates who complete this program will be awarded the specialty of a family doctor.
From the 2027-2028 academic year, the training of narrow-specialty experts will be fully transferred to the residency system, and admission to clinical residency (ordinatura) will be suspended.
Additionally, admission parameters for master's programs in narrow medical specialties based on the general state order will be reduced. The funds freed up by suspending admission to ordinatura and reducing master's admission parameters will be directed towards training specialists in residency.
Students admitted to residency on the basis of state grants will be paid a stipend from the state budget in the amount of 2.15 times the minimum wage.
Graduates who successfully complete the residency educational program will be awarded a state-recognized diploma corresponding to Level 7 of the International Standard Classification of Education and the National Qualifications Framework.
