How has the e-commerce market in Uzbekistan changed in a few years?
It is much easier to assess the scale of changes through numbers. According to official data, the annual growth of this sector currently averages 30–50 percent. At the same time, the share of e-commerce in total retail sales has risen from 0.5 percent to 4.6 percent over the last five years. However, the market potential has not yet been fully realized: according to government plans, the volume of e-commerce in the country is projected to increase from 22.6 trillion soums to 30 trillion soums by 2030.
The rapid development of e-commerce is also confirmed by the buyers themselves: according to a survey conducted by Ozon in 2025, nearly 40 percent of Uzbeks, especially among the youth, already combine online and offline shopping. Meanwhile, 17 percent of buyers consciously choose marketplaces as their primary option for purchases.
We can see that in 2025, Ozon's turnover in Uzbekistan increased nearly fourfold compared to 2024, while the number of active buyers grew almost 3.5 times.
The data shows that more and more people are making purchases in a new format, and online channels are becoming one of the main ways to expand business. In turn, it is the marketplace that allows entrepreneurs to quickly expand the geography of their business activities and find their place in the new market.
What results are small and medium-sized businesses achieving in Uzbekistan?
For small and medium-sized businesses, the development of e-commerce is, first of all, an opportunity to access a new sales channel without having to immediately build the entire infrastructure themselves. An entrepreneur does not need to start by creating their own online store or a network of retail outlets. They can place their product on a ready-made platform and test customer response to it. If the demand for the product is high, the assortment and volume can be increased without the need to change the business model itself.
Even someone who has never worked online before can start selling on Ozon. Three steps are sufficient for this: creating a seller account, uploading product photos and descriptions, and choosing a business model. Effective sales skills can be acquired using the Ozon knowledge base, analytical data, and other tools.
