Retail trade in Uzbekistan grew by 20.2%

Retail trade in Uzbekistan demonstrated significant growth, increasing by 20.2% in real terms from January to July 2026. Total retail turnover reached 310,901.9 billion soums, according to the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As of August 1, 2026, there were 90,683 retail establishments operating in the country. Of these, 424 were classified as large, and 90,259 as small and micro-firms. Large enterprises generated a turnover of 55,228.1 billion soums, an increase of 26.9%. Meanwhile, small and micro-firms generated 255,673.8 billion soums, an increase of 18.9%.

The regions with the highest growth rates in retail turnover were Khorezm Region (25.9%), Jizzakh Region (23.8%), and Tashkent City (23.7%). The slowest growth was recorded in Bukhara Region, at 10.9%.

The share of small businesses in total retail turnover increased from 82.2% in 2025 to 83.2% in 2026. Accordingly, the share of large organizations decreased from 17.8% to 16.8%.

Wholesale trade turnover in the republic for January-July 2026 reached 396,827.6 billion soums, 15% higher than the same period in 2025, when wholesale trade volume amounted to 326,594.8 billion soums. As of August 1, 57,163 enterprises operated in this sector, 421 of which were large and 56,742 were small and micro-firms. The turnover of large enterprises amounted to 104,578.7 billion soums, an increase of 31.7%, while the turnover of small enterprises reached 292,248.9 billion soums, an increase of 10%. Small businesses accounted for 73.6% of total wholesale trade.

The largest growth in wholesale turnover among regions was recorded in Jizzakh Region (19.5%) and Khorezm Region (18.1%). The smallest growth was recorded in Fergana Region (10.6%) and Namangan Region (10.8%).

The turnover of catering establishments from January to July 2026 amounted to 170,976.1 billion soums, an increase of 16.7% in real terms. By August 1, the number of enterprises in this sector reached 29,582, including 147 large and 29,435 small and micro-firms. Small businesses accounted for 77.6% of turnover, while large enterprises accounted for 22.4%.
