A new gas condensate field, Patron, has been discovered in the Mirishkor district of the Kashkadarya region, where exploratory well No. 1 was connected to the gas pipeline and put into operation on September 2, 2026. The initial volume of gas production from the well is 500,000 cubic meters per day. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.
The Ministry of Energy also refuted information circulating on social media about an alleged gas explosion in the Karshi district of the Kashkadarya region. The department stated that the video being distributed does not depict an explosion, but rather the process of testing and commissioning an exploratory well at the new field.
Drilling of the first exploratory well at the Patron site began after 3D seismic surveys were conducted in 2025 by the Chinese company BGP. Drilling operations have been completed, and testing of reservoir productivity at depths from 3,296 to 3,339 meters showed the presence of natural gas in commercial volumes.
According to preliminary calculations, the field is classified as relatively small. Its reserves are estimated at approximately 2.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
Currently, specialists from JSC "O‘zLITIneftgaz" are conducting gas-dynamic and gas-condensate studies. These are necessary to determine the actual gas production rates from the new well.
The Ministry of Energy specifically explained that the appearance of an open flame during well testing is a standard technological procedure. Gas is flared through a special device to determine the well's productivity, pressure, and operating parameters. Therefore, according to the department, the process depicted in the video does not indicate an explosion or an accident.
The connection of the well to the gas pipeline and its commissioning took place on September 2 at 06:00. The work was carried out with the participation of the militarized unit of the oil and gas industry and specialists from JSC "O‘zLITIneftgaz".
According to the Ministry of Energy, industrial and fire safety, occupational health, and environmental standards were observed during the work. The necessary organizational and technical measures were taken under the supervision of representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
In connection with the distribution of the video, the Ministry of Energy urged social media administrators not to publish unverified information without first clarifying the circumstances. The department also reminded that the dissemination of false information that misleads the public may entail liability in accordance with current legislation.
The Ministry recommended obtaining information about events in the oil and gas industry from official sources.
