A criminal case has been opened in Karakalpakstan after damages amounting to 251.5 billion soums were discovered at a gas supply company.

The Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan announced the initiation of a criminal case against officials of the gas supply company Khududgaz Karakalpakstan. This followed the discovery of 251.5 billion soums in damages to the state and society.
According to the department, responsible employees of the company recorded discrepancies between the volumes of natural gas received by the organization and the volumes supplied to consumers as standard losses. However, the reasons for these discrepancies were not clarified.
The investigation estimated the damage caused by these actions at 251.5 billion soums, which, according to the department, is equivalent to approximately $21.1 million. A criminal case has been opened for this incident under Article 167 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (theft by misappropriation or embezzlement) and Article 205 (abuse of power or official authority).
The investigation is ongoing.
