On the night of September 9, Novorossiysk was targeted by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
This was reported by the city's mayor, Andrey Kravchenko, via Telegram.
According to him, debris from the downed drones fell both on the territory of enterprises and near a residential building. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties. Emergency services are working at the scenes to eliminate the consequences of the attack.
According to an OSINT analysis by the ASTRA publication based on open sources, a major fire broke out at a fuel oil terminal in Novorossiysk following the strikes. This terminal is considered one of the key enterprises of the Novorossiysk transport hub, which is part of the largest port in Russia.
A fire was also recorded in another part of the city. One of the eyewitnesses captured it on video. According to ASTRA, a fire also occurred in a multi-story residential building on Volgogradskaya Street.
Novorossiysk is one of the port cities of strategic importance for Russia's foreign trade, and its port is among the largest in Europe. Through it, Russian oil, metals, container cargo, and large volumes of grain products destined for world markets are transported.
According to data, up to one-third of Russia's grain exports are carried out through the port of Novorossiysk. This is also due to the port's proximity to the country's main agricultural regions.
In August, following increased strikes on Novorossiysk, significant disruptions were also observed in the processes of loading and shipping oil and grain products.
