A container train has been dispatched from China to Iran via Uzbekistan

A new transit route between China and Iran through Central Asia has begun operations. A container train consisting of 55 containers will travel through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan before arriving in Iran. The entire route, spanning over 6,000 kilometers, is expected to take about two weeks.

The organization of the container train transportation from China to the Islamic Republic of Iran was carried out with the participation of JSC "Uztemiryulkonteyner".

The train was formed at the Chengxiang station in China. The 55 containers carry components for passenger cars, consumer goods, and other consolidated cargo.

The train arrived in Kazakhstan via the Khorgos — Altynkol border crossing. On September 7, it was dispatched from the Altynkol station along the rest of the route.

Next, the train will pass through the Keles border crossing and enter the territory of Uzbekistan. After that, the train will transit through the country and head to Turkmenistan via the Khodjadavlet border station.

The final destination of the route will be Iran. The train is scheduled to pass through the Sarakhs border station.

The total length of the route exceeds 6,000 kilometers. The delivery of the cargo is expected to take between 14 and 16 days.

The launch of this route demonstrates that the "China — Central Asia — Iran" railway corridor is gradually gaining practical significance. The project also opens up opportunities for regular container transportation between the countries of the region and the further development of Uzbekistan's transit potential.

Earlier, Uzbekistan launched a new export format to Afghanistan. Now, cargo is transported in containers at the rates of closed railway wagons, which helps businesses avoid additional costs.
