A 56-meter road bridge will be built on the border of China and Kyrgyzstan

A permanent road bridge is planned to be built over the Uzongu-Kuush River at the Bedel checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border. The draft of this agreement was approved by the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Industrial Policy, Transport, Fuel and Energy, Architecture and Construction.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Mombekov Baktiluu Askar uulu, the bridge is necessary to develop transport links between Kyrgyzstan and China and to improve border infrastructure.

The Bedel checkpoint was opened in September 2024. Currently, traffic across the border is carried out via a temporary iron bridge. According to the new plan, the permanent road bridge will be 56 meters long and 12 meters wide.

28 meters of the structure will fall on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, and the remaining 28 meters on the Chinese side. This bridge will not be an isolated object, but will become an integral part of a new transport route. On the Kyrgyz side, it will connect with the 161-kilometer Barskoon—Bedel highway.

Both sides will finance the construction of the bridge and the access roads to it on their respective territories. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the bridge will be approximately 940 thousand dollars. However, the final price has not yet been determined. This will be clarified once the design and estimate documentation is fully prepared.

Mombekov Baktiluu emphasized that the proposed agreement primarily creates a legal framework for the implementation of the project. The Barskoon—Bedel highway, with a length of approximately 161 kilometers, is being built as a new transport corridor between Kyrgyzstan and China.

The project includes more than 50 bridges, two tunnels named "Suk" and "Ashuu-Suu", and other engineering structures. The main construction work is planned to be completed in 2029, and the road is expected to be fully commissioned in 2030.

According to the report on the execution of the 2025 republican budget, the debt stands at 1.4 billion dollars. The Deputy Minister of Finance of the republic stated that the debts could be repaid today. However, he noted that it is preferable to implement this gradually.
