66 Uzbek citizens are serving sentences in a colony in Buryatia
The Consul General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk, Aslam Akbarov, met with compatriots serving sentences in Correctional Colony No. 8 in the city of Ulan-Ude, Republic of Buryatia. During the visit, measures were determined to provide immediate medical assistance to two citizens, and the issue of a certificate of return to Uzbekistan for another compatriot was resolved.

According to the "Dunyo" news agency, 66 citizens of Uzbekistan are currently serving their sentences in this institution.
The Consul General spoke individually with the compatriots and listened to their appeals and requests. Information regarding the nature of the offenses was studied, and relevant recommendations were provided.
Based on the appeals, measures were determined to provide immediate medical assistance to two citizens suffering from heart and spinal diseases.
Additionally, the issue of organizing meals for Uzbek citizens in accordance with Muslim dietary laws was discussed with the administration of the institution.
The issue of issuing a certificate of return to Uzbekistan for a compatriot who is expected to be released from the colony in a month was also promptly resolved.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the diplomatic mission protects the legal rights and interests of citizens, regardless of the nature of the offenses they committed. Readiness to continue providing necessary consular, legal, and juridical assistance to compatriots was expressed.
The next visit of the diplomatic mission representatives to places of detention is planned to take place in Irkutsk in October.
