264 people granted Uzbek citizenship by presidential decree

On the eve of the 35th anniversary of the country's independence, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree granting 264 people Uzbek citizenship. This was reported by the Uzbek 24 TV channel.

"I moved here in 2000. For many years, I could not go to Tajikistan. When my mother died, I could not see her on her last journey," says Khursanoy Jumaboyeva in the TV channel. She said that she was born in Tajikistan and has been living in the Tashkent region for 26 years.

Robiya Kakhhorova said that she had been waiting for citizenship for 40 years.

“It’s very difficult if you don’t have citizenship. We walked around with ‘Form 4’ for ten years… They said that citizenship would be granted. When I came home from work in the evening, my nephew ran up and said: ‘Uncle, there’s news.’ I screamed with joy,” says Otabek Rasulov.

It is noted that 90 of the 264 people who were granted citizenship live in Surkhandarya region.

We would like to remind you that after Uzbekistan gained independence, 482 stateless people were granted Uzbek citizenship between 1991 and 2007. During the period 2007-2016, no cases of citizenship were recorded.

Since 2016, about 26 thousand people have been granted Uzbek citizenship. As a result of the introduction of the institution of recognition of citizenship, more than 60 thousand people have been recognized as citizens of Uzbekistan.
