In the Namangan and Fergana regions, law enforcement officers thwarted the sale of 24 kilograms of hashish. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, one of the participants smuggled 20 kilograms of the drug across the Naryn River from the territory of a neighboring state.
A 33-year-old resident of the Andijan region was detained in the border zone of the Namangan region. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he transported a bag of hashish across the river and left it under some trees about 20 meters from the border. The drugs were intended for the man's accomplices in the Andijan and Namangan regions.
Following this, the operation was continued to detain the remaining members of the group. Later, a 50-year-old man was detained in Andijan while receiving 10 kilograms from the previously discovered batch of hashish.
Another operational event was conducted in Kokand, where a man was detained while attempting to sell hashish for 24 thousand dollars. In the Besharyk district, law enforcement officers detained a 35-year-old suspect while he was selling another four kilograms of hashish, packaged in four bundles. As a result, the total volume of the drug whose distribution was prevented amounted to 24 kilograms.
Criminal cases have been initiated regarding these facts under Articles 246 ("Smuggling of narcotic drugs in large quantities") and 273 ("Illegal manufacture, processing, acquisition, storage, and other actions with narcotic drugs for the purpose of sale"). The first article carries a sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison, the second — from 15 to 20 years. All suspects have been taken into custody.
