234,000 applicants scored unsatisfactory scores when entering higher education institutions

To enter the university, you need to score at least 56.7 points (30% of the maximum score). This year, 37.5% of all applicants failed to score even this minimum score. However, this figure is decreasing year by year; in previous years, the percentage of those who failed to score 56.7 was over 40%. At the same time, the number of people applying to state universities is also decreasing: three years ago, more than a million young people applied for a bachelor's degree, and by 2026 this figure had decreased to 678,000 (33%).

About 234 thousand applicants showed unsatisfactory results in the entrance exams to higher education institutions.

233,935 applicants who applied for the bachelor's degree at state higher education institutions for the 2026/27 academic year scored a minimum passing score of 56.7 points. This was reported by Sardor Rajabov, First Deputy Minister of Higher Education.

This figure is 37.54 percent of the total number of applicants. In recent years, the share of applicants who scored less than 56.8 points, the minimum score required for admission (30 percent of the maximum score), has been decreasing. According to Sardor Rajabov, this indicates that the level of knowledge and test results of applicants are improving.

However, it is worth noting that in recent years the number of applicants has also been decreasing overall. This academic year, 677.9 thousand applicants registered online for undergraduate studies at state universities. For comparison, by 2024 this figure was more than 1 million.

The number of applicants in 2026 decreased by almost 340 thousand, or 33%, compared to 2023. The suspension of admission to correspondence education may also have influenced the reduction in the number of applicants.

There is currently no data on the dynamics of cases of scoring below 56.7 points among young people who graduated from school this year.

It should be noted that this year the average passing score on the basis of a state grant was 134.6 points, and on a paid contract - 93.7 points. Last school year, these indicators were 121.8 and 84.9 points, respectively.
